COMMANDER GEORGE J. SCHROEDER

UNITED STATES NAVY (Retired)


CDR Schroeder is a 1980 graduate of the State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology. He was a Police Officer for the Town of Colonie, New York, prior to being commissioned through Officer Candidate School in 1987.


From 1987 to 1991, CDR Schroeder was assigned on active duty to USS SCOTT (DDG-995), Norfolk, VA, as Damage Control Assistant and Communications Officer. He qualified as a Surface Warfare Officer while deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield.


In February, 1991, he left active duty to accept a position as a Criminal Investigator with the United States Marshals Service. CDR Schroeder retired from the United States Marshals Service in March 2012.


From February, 1991 through September, 2002, CDR Schroeder served in four Navy Reserve units: COMNAVSURFGRU, Long Beach, CA; NAVWEPSTA Det. 119, Seal Beach, CA, MIUW-105, Long Beach, CA, and NCAPS Det. 119, Long Beach, CA.


In September, 2002, he reported to Force Protection, Law Enforcement and Physical Security Unit 0176, Naval Base Ventura County, CA. He completed his tour in September, 2004 as Executive Officer. While there, he received the Navy Commendation Medal for his role as OIC of the Navy Reserve Security Detachment for President Ronald Reagan’s funeral detail, Naval Air Station, Point Mugu, CA.


In October, 2004, CDR Schroeder reported to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 55, Naval Air Station, Point Mugu, CA. He served as the OIC of the unit’s Small Arms Training Program detachment.


In February, 2005, He reported as Commanding Officer, NR Navy Security Force, Coronado, Naval Air Station, North Island, San Diego, CA.


In October, 2005, CDR Schroeder reported to his final assignment as Commanding Officer of NR Navy Security Force, Naval Air Facility, El Centro, CA. The unit earned the LCDR Keith Taylor Unit of the Year award in 2006 and 2007 under CDR Schroeder’s command.


CDR Schroeder retired from the United States Navy in January, 2008.


CDR Schroeder’s personal awards include three Navy Achievement Medals, two Navy Commendation Medals and the Meritorious Service Medal.


CDR Schroeder is married and resides in North Myrtle Beach, SC, with his wife, Sharon.
