We remember September 11, 2001, as Patriot Day and a National Day of Service and Remembrance in honor of those our Nation lost as a result of al Qaeda terrorist attacks. It was the worst attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941.
Three thousand civilians and servicemembers perished as four airplanes commandeered by terrorists struck The World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. Passengers aboard United Airlines Flight 93 made the ultimate sacrifice to prevent the loss of life of other innocent Americans. Many more were injured in the attacks.
To first responders and patriots alike, we owe a debt of gratitude for preserving our democracy and keeping America’s unbreakable spirit alive. We recognize those who joined every branch of the military, including the Navy, running toward danger to protect our way of life. We thank all of those servicemembers deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, and other war zones who defended and continue to defend our country so it will not be attacked again.
Please observe a moment of silence beginning at 8:46 a.m. EDT to honor those who died on September 11, 2001. And, please consider how you can volunteer in your community in honor of those our Nation lost. If you’d like to volunteer with AUSN, please contact Operations Manager Steve Rogers.
