AUSN lays a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier

AUSN leaders, members, family and friends laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on May 27, 2021.

AUSN Board Chairman Dan Feliz, Executive Director Jason Beardsley, Coast Guard Lt. Steve Roth, and David Rutherford, former Navy SEAL and motivational speaker, honored the men and women represented by the white marble memorial at Arlington National Cemetery.

The memorial has honored America’s unidentified fallen service members since 1921, and it is the final resting place for men and women who fought in conflicts as early as the War of 1812.

Two guards accompanied the AUSN delegation as the wreath was laid. The guards were first assigned to the Tomb in 1926, and they took on a 24/7 presence starting in 1937.

“Laying a wreath is our way of recognizing America’s men and women who gave all to this nation, and it’s our privilege to represent our members this way as we approach Memorial Day,” said Beardsley.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is guarded night and day by Sentinels, and the Changing of the Guard takes place every 30 minutes from late Spring until early Fall.
