FORMAT FOR REQUESTING TRANSFER TO THE RETIRED RESERVE

(2) Naval Reserve Activity Commanding Officer or Record Holder (Note 1)

Subj: REQUEST TO TRANSFER TO THE RETIRED RESERVE

Ref: (a) BUPERSINST 1001.39E

Encl: (1) Annual Statement of Service History (ASOSH) or NOE


1. Per reference (a), I request transfer to the Retired Reserve.

2. The following information is provided:

a. Name, grade, rank or rate, social security number, designator (officers only)

b. Complete mailing address including zip code.

c. Desired date. (Per the Uniform Retirement Date Act, 5 U.S.C. 8301, the effective date of retirement must be the first day of a month desired by member.)
See Note 2.

d. Date of Birth

e. Reason transfer is requested.

f. Ceremony date (if known).

g. Phone numbers where member can be contacted.

Note1: Members in the IRR and not assigned to a reserve unit will not have any via addresses. Their requests will be submitted directly to NAVPERSCOM (PERS-912) at the address above.

Note2: For officers: If you have completed two years TIG and desire to transfer to the Retired Reserve (without pay), request a TIG waiver along with your retirement request using paragraph 2c. In paragraph 2c, include that you request a TIG waiver for X months to meet the desired retirement date. When the request is received by NPC (PERS-912), they will coordinated the waiver. Questions should be addressed to PERS-91 at 1-901-874-4482/4483.

What are the maximum number of Inactive Reserve Points (drills, correspondence courses, membership) that you can earn each year. I know for sure that it was 90, but has that been increased?

Maximum number of inactive points per anniversary year is now 130.
