Normally, portal to portal coverage describes when a Reservist is covered in regard to benefits in the case any illness, disease or injury occurs, in line of duty, while traveling to and from an authorized duty/drill site.
This coverage applies to any active duty (AT, ADSW, ADT, RPN recall, MPN recall, voluntary or involuntary recall to active duty), IDT or IDTT. For IDT, coverage includes travel to and from IDT and remaining overnight before IDT or between successive periods of IDT. Any travel or time remaining over night must be in accordance with orders and conduct in line of duty.
Entitlement may encompass medical and dental care, disability benefits and incapacitation pay.
