With regards to military pay, longevity runs from “over 2” to “over 40” on the military pay scales. Depending on pay grade, longevity increases terminate for 0-1 through 0-6 retirement purposes at OVER 12, OVER 18, OVER 20, OVER 22, OVER 24, OVER 26, and OVER 30.

For reservists, the longevity clock continues to run (to the maximum for the pay grade) unless discharged, death or reaching age 60. Therefore, an O-6 could transfer to the retired Reserve at over 24, but longevity would continue to count to over 30 even though the officer is in the “Gray Area.”
