The FY-2011 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) is currently awaiting Senate floor action after passage in the House. The original defense budget proposed a $549 billion base budget (a 3.4% increase) and $159 billion more to support war operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The FY 2011 Defense Appropriations Bill or War Supplemental have still not been passed at this time. Some highlights follow which have not passed at this writing:

If you have just received this issue of Navy and, like most people, are reading immediately, the AUSN National Conference in Las Vegas is only three (3) weeks away. There is still time to register and attend. The fourteen day advance reservations on most airlines should probably still be available. Even though the deadline to make reservations has passed at Planet Hollywood, I’m pretty sure they will still honor the conference rate; and if they won’t, there are plenty of hotels close by that may have even better rates.

Frank Boo, VADM Frank Jack Fletcher’s yeoman aboard the YORKTOWN (CV-5) during the Battle of the Coral Sea, had typed the battle report perfectly. “It had been edited and approved by ADM Nimitz when we were in Pearl Harbor after the battle,” he said recently.
