March 2010 Navy
from VADM Dirk J. Debbink, USN, Chief of Navy Reserve, Commander, Navy Reserve Force
As we mark the 95th anniversary of the Navy Reserve, I reflect on both our proud past and our bright future. We truly represent the fighting spirit of the Navy and all who have gone before us to defend freedom and democracy around the world!
Today, we confidently and successfully carry out our mission to provide strategic depth and deliver operational capabilities to our Navy and Marine Corps team, and Joint forces, from peace to war.
We are full partners in the Navy Total Force, with almost 7,000 Navy Reserve Sailors mobilized to active duty. We are filling about half of the Individual Augmentee (IA) billets in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Horn of Africa, Guantanamo and elsewhere. We are deeply appreciated by the Navy and Joint forces for our worldwide contributions as part of “America’s Navy: A Global Force for Good.”
As we have for 95 years, our Navy Reserve Sailors proudly serve our country’s Navy combat team with Honor, Courage and Commitment. The combined efforts of our Sailors, their families and civilian employers ensure that we can live up to our Force Motto — Navy Reserve: Ready Now. Anytime, Anywhere!
I am extremely proud of your service to our Nation. Happy 95th Anniversary!
Dirk J. Debbink
