Reserve Retirement Point Value for 2010

If you are initially retiring in 2010, this is what a retirement point is currently worth. To place a full monetary value on one point would be somewhat difficult. The difficulty would be in figuring the value of the entitlements and benefits that accompany retirement pay, such as TRICARE. However, the basic pay portion is easy to calculate. Here are pay grades and selected longevity points reflecting the 2010 pay table value of one point each month in retired pay.

GRADE CENTS per point
E-6 over 18 24.2
E-7 over 26 32.5
E-8 over 30 37.0
E-9 over 38 49.2
W-2 over 24 35.5
W-3 over 26 42.1
W-4 over 30 48.9
0-3 over 14 41.4
0-3E over 18 44.1
0-4 over 20 48.3
0-5 over 22 56.8
0-6 over 30 71.1

FY 2011 Named Promotion Board Zones

Active and Reserve officer promotion zones for FY 2011 named boards should be promulgated by the first week in December. As soon as the message is released, we will post it on the Web at www.ausn.org.

No COLA for 2010

For the first time since 1975, there will be no federal retiree COLA. The reason – overall cost of living based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI-W) decreased by 2 percent. The outlook over the upcoming two years does not favor an increase through 2012.

Under Early Retirement – Pay Only

For those Reservists planning on applying for Retirement Under Age 60, you should know that the only entitlement you will get is retired pay. TRICARE will become effective upon reaching age 60.You will also not receive a blue retired ID card (DD-2N) until age 60. Under the recent NDAA for FY 2010, grayarea TRICARE will be available but on a monthly premium basis. For questions, call CAPT McAtee at 703-548-5800.
