Senate Delays 21% Cuts in Medicare and TRICARE
Late Tuesday night, 2 March, the Senate passed (by a 78-19 margin) temporary legislation to extend help for the jobless and keep federal highway dollars flowing, and delay the 21% Cuts in Medicare and TRICARE payments, etc.
Sen. Jim Bunning (KY) had essentially been acting as a one-man filibuster and holding up action on the extensions bill for days, finally conceded allowing passage of the measure.
The measure, as passed, extends benefits for a further 6 months, delaying the 21% cuts in Medicare and TRICARE.
AUSN is monitoring this issue closely, and will keep the membership and friends informed. Thanks to members that responded and wrote Congress on this issue. Along with our colleague associations, we will keep the pressure on Congress to not make these cuts.
