Military/VA and National Health Reform
As Congress begins consideration of national health care reform legislation, Administration and congressional leaders have said they intend to protect VA and military health care programs in that process.
But there's a long way to go in the legislative process, and severe budget pressures can undermine the best of intentions, and Congressional agendas overcome promises and get in the way of common sense!
Military and VA beneficiaries of all ages earned their unique coverage through service and sacrifice to the Nation, and the programs they depend on for care must be protected under any national health reform legislation.
As you have heard, some Congressional members propose making "better-off" benefit programs subject to federal income tax. Interim action for this year only has been taken to prevent taxation of military and VA benefits, but the legislation has a long way to go. As you have seen, behind closed door negotiations can and will change anything in Congress.
To protect your earned benefits, send the suggested letter or message telling your legislators to ensure earned military and VA benefits are preserved and not subjected to taxation, or ANY cuts!
