Email-Write Your Congressional Representative

The House Armed Services Committee did not include language to change the current U.S. Code on early retirement to include those who have been mobilized since September 11, 2001 in recent markup of the FY 2010 National Defense Authorization Act.

Reservists can reduce their retirement by 90 days below age 60 for every 90 days they served in support of a contingency operation, but only if the service is on or after January 28, 2008.

We need YOU to contact your Congressional House members to support Congressman Joe Wilson's efforts - along with the co-sponsor if this provision, on HR 2476 - the House version of the FY-2010 NDAA before it is voted on by the entire House.

The Congressional Budget Office reports that the cost for a retroactive provision is $2.1 billion over ten years that is approximately $210M per year for the next ten years. At a time when Congress is spending trillions for bailouts, it seems bizarre that they want to balance the budget on the back of Reserve members.

With your pressure, Members may consider an amendment when floor action occurs and during NDAA conference with the Senate. Please hit the take action button on this Legislation, and keep taking action on this priority issue.

AUSN helped write the legislation. In the past, Congressional House members have listened to their constituents. Tell a friend to take action with their Congressional members. The Senate will consider this provision later in the summer. Feel free to contact Congress with your personal views. For a detail view of HR 2476 - see -- http://armedservices.house.gov/.
